The objective of the Foundation is to ensure that the work of Satyajit Ray, India's most outstanding Film-maker, is shown and appreciated and that his particular vision, artistry and humanity remain an example and inspiration to the generations of film-makers and the film-going public.

Since it came into being in 1992, the Satyajit Ray Foundation has planned and executed a variety of successful programmes and events. These are set out below - we have been able to accomplish many of our aims through the help and encouragement of our distinguished patrons, the backing of an increasing number of supporters on our mailing list and through the work of our Committee of Management

The Ray Foundation was established as a charity in London in 1994 by:

• Charles and Kitty Cooper: whose company, Contemporary Films, first introduced Ray's films to Britain.
• Shyamal Choudhury: one of the second wave of Film Society movements in Bengal in the 1950's, who wrote on film matters during these years and has been a close follower of Ray's work.
• Pam Cullen: who for many years was Films Officer for the Government of India in London. She was associated with Ray professionally and as a friend from 1955.

TARGET EVENTS AND ONGOING ACTIVITIES

• Annual Season of screenings/workshops led by notable film authorities in collaboration with the Nehru Centre;
• The Satyajit Ray Award;
• Annual Satyajit Ray Memorial Lecture in collaboration with the Nehru Centre;
• Special London Premiers to invited audiences, as cultural and fundraising event;
• Screenings of Specially Selected Indian Films;
• Establishing a definitive collection of Ray's film material in collaboration with the NFTA to ensure that the films are available in the quality such film-making deserves
