We are delighted to announce the 2009 winner of the Satyajit Ray Short Film Competition  "The Great Identity Swindle" by Yam Boy (Nikesh Shukla) and Laura Taflinger.

The award was presented to Nikesh and Laura by director Eran Creevy, whose first feature "Shifty" was released on 24th April to much critical acclaim. Eran who was on the jury said of the film;

"It fuses perfectly the mediums of poetry, cinema, comic books and music resulting in a hilarious study of Asian culture in contemporary Britain. I feel I learnt more about this protagonist’s life in sixty seconds than I do at the end of most Hollywood blockbusters".

The film, a one-minute short, is part of moti roti's 60 x 60 secs project , where established and emerging artists from the South Asian Diaspora – twenty each from Britain, India and Pakistan – present their personal perspective on what ‘home and boundaries’ mean to them. The winner was presented with a £1,000 cheque, Satyajit Ray's "Speaking of Films" book, a  year's subscription to Moviescope Magazine and the Moviemagic Screenwriting software kindly donated by Moviescope .
